Qualified editors may demonstrate expertise and eligibility for inclusion in our directory in several ways. The following criteria are used to evaluate each application:

• A professional website dedicated to your editorial services business — or a related business with a dedicated editorial services page—that clearly describes the services you offer
• A services page that details your editing and proofreading specialties and the types of clients you work with
• A valid LLC, DBA certificate, or other business formation document specific to editorial services (non-writing-related business licenses will not be accepted)
• A list or portfolio of edited titles that indicates the type of work performed
• Demonstrated experience in each genre listed on your application
• A detailed bio or About section on your website summarizing your relevant background and qualifications
• A Facebook, Google, or LinkedIn business page that includes your services, edited works, and client types
• Published testimonials from satisfied clients
• Published blog posts or articles that demonstrate your knowledge and experience
• A portfolio that showcases the above

The first six items are required. Applications missing any of them will be denied. If you have none of the above, you will not be approved.

Copyediting and proofreading applicants are held to a higher standard: your application and website should be free of errors. Minor typos will not automatically disqualify you, but proofread carefully or have a colleague review your materials before submitting.
